My WRT Wordle!
Above is a Wordle I have created using portions of blog entries and the major assignments I have been working on this semester. As you can see, FOOD was a hot topic in the class since the size of the word in the Wordle is determined by how frequently it is used!
Twitterive
The first assignment for our Writing, Research and Technology class this semester was the Twitterive. For this assignment, we were directed to use Twitter as a resource for discovering an important place in our lives. After Tweeting for several weeks, our Twitterives were presented and critiqued. The feedback from classmates and Mr. Mangini was invaluable and truly helped me finally discover my "place."
Oral History Project
Since we spent such a significant amount of time on the Twitterive assignment, the Oral History Project was combined with the Collaborative Research Project. For the Oral History Project, Linsey Seifert, Megan Norris and I, interviewed people regarding food production and consumption. Our first interview participant was Linsey's sister-in-law, Jackie. Since Jackie was raised on a hobby farm, she had a lot of insight on what "good" food is. Our next interview is with a representative from the Natural Health Food Store in Blackwood, NJ.
Collaborative Research Project
Our next project was the Collaborative Research Project. In order to keep things organized while blogging, I have created a separate blog for this assignment. My group consists of Linsey Seifert, Megan Norris and myself. Through our research, we have discovered themes in the advertising practices of many major food production companies. We are calling our project "Selling the Narrative" because we see this advertising scheme as a story the manufacturer wants the consumer to see as they do their shopping. Please visit our website to see our project in it's entirety!
Reflective Statement
To finish up the semester, we are writing a final Reflective Statement to look back on the semester and analyze the progress we have made. We are also being asked to determine how much what we have learned has affected our views on Researching, Writing and Technology.
